Dr. Kumar Padmanabh is currently working as a senior researcher in EBTIC, a research lab of British Telecom. He has expertise in IoT. He has also expertise in Data Science especially applicable to IoT data. He has developed many commercially viable technology solutions catering to "Commercial Buildings", "Automotives" and "Healthcare". 

In one of the projects, he instrumented hundreds of data centers, did several experiments to identify wastages of energy, and demonstrated that more than 20% electricity bill could be saved by modulating the HVAC setpoints with the cooling requirement with the help of IoT devices, IoT protocols, and a platform that he built. In a recent Industrial Solution, he identified and deployed the IoT system to monitor the internal dynamics of the large industrial equipment and used AI/Machine Learning to predict when this networked equipment would fail and their corresponding reasons for failure. He demonstrated that this solution (which he developed as an individual contributor) could be used to save several million dollars in predictive maintenance.   


He has a degree of PhD from IIT Kharagpur in Sensor Network and executive management from IIM Bangalore. Earlier he worked in the Corporate Research department of Bosch,  Corporate Research Labs of General Motors and Infosys Lab (SETLABS).  

He has expertise in deriving wisdom out of the sensor data using regression, logistic regression, classification, deep neural network and support vector machine. In most of his projects, he used Linear Programming, Integer Programming, Combinational and Stochastic Optimization using tools like CPLEX, solver, etc. In the internet of things domain, he has expertise in Protocols of IoT, Middleware for IoT, Designing, Development of IoT hardware and large-scale industrial deployment.

Following are his top-5 achievements:

  1. He was adjudged by Technology Review of Massachusetts Institute of Technology as top 6 researchers of India of the year 2010.  
  2. He designed and deployed one of the largest IoT System/Sensor Network (instrumented hundreds of data centers) with help of 5 more engineers. For this solution, he designed hardware, developed protocols, middleware and application software.
  3. He was a recipient of the highest possible honor of Infosys (for best performance) among 1.5 lacs engineers. 
  4. He has 25 Patents to his credit most of them are already granted (granted 9 in USA). He has 40 research papers: 9 journals (7 SCI) and remaining in Int Conf Citation= 332
  5. He has been invited for the expert lecture by many research labs/universities around the world including Indian Institute of Science, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, IITs and other universities. 

He has also been a finalist of the Indian Mathematics Olympiad during his school days. He is a senior member of IEEE.

He has been actively pursuing his hobby of creative writing. So far he has written more than three hundred non-technical blog articles. He is able to publish three books (all fiction).
